Our Business

The Plan Centre was established more than thirty years ago by founder Cliff Princehorn. Since that time, The Plan Centre has grown to be one of Newcastle’s most recognised and respected Building Design companies. Our Designers have the skills and experience required to nurture your project from initial conception; through to design development; and ultimately on to completion. We are also registered providers for Disability Care – The National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Some of the services we can offer you include:

  • Site inspections & appraisals
  • Sketch Design (plans, elevations and photorealistic 3D imagery to help you visualise your project)
  • Master Planning (long term plans for larger scale projects that may need to be staged)
  • Development Applications (documentation and reports required for Council Approval)
  • Liaison with Council (acting as your representative during the development approval period)
  • Liaison with Consultants (such as such as surveyors and engineers as required for your project)
  • Construction Certificate Applications (documentation and reports required for Construction Approval)
  • Tendering (documentation and liaison required to obtain competitive quotes from builders)
  • Contract Administration (site inspections and liaison with builders on your behalf during construction)

What is a Building Designer?

We are often asked what differences there are between a Building Designer and an Architect?

Realistically Building Designers and Architects do a similar job. Both design and document buildings; and both can be involved throughout the entire life of the project, from the initial concept right through to overseeing construction.  The major difference is that in order to be called an Architect, you are required to be registered with the Board of Architects.  Many architecturally trained professionals are not registered with the board and choose to work instead as Building Designers.  In fact two members of our staff at The Plan Centre have obtained degrees in Architecture.

The most important factor in selecting a Design Professional to help with your project, is to make sure that you feel comfortable with the Designer.  This can be done by establishing a dialogue where your ideas are discussed, and potential ways in which these ideas can be transformed into reality are put forward by the Designer.  Much of The Plan Centre’s success over the years is a result of our ability to provide this service.
